Renovation of historic garden in the South of France
In connection with a change of ownership, the studio has renovated a beautiful, park-like garden in the south of France. The property and garden were originally built by the Norwegian artist Ferdinand Finne, and also belonged to the architect Finn Juhl’s widow, Hanne Wilhelm Hansen.
The house and garden have been renovated with respect for the aesthetics that characterize the place. Old photos and clippings have been scrutinized and the beautiful poetry and lushness of the garden has formed the basis for the creation of the new garden. As much as possible of the old garden has been preserved, including all the trees.
Architecturally, the house and the garden’s most character-defining elements have been emphasized and replaced worn-out items to promote a tighter form and expression. Beds and planting have been supplemented both with plants previously found in the garden and a plant selection adapted to the new owner’s wishes.
An existing water reservoir on the site is utilized to collect water from all roof surfaces and is used for watering beds.
A delightful oasis of beauty, tranquillity and fragrance, with views of the Mediterranean in the distance.
